Preschool has been out for two weeks so I have time to get
THE DRIVE released. All I have left is one final edit. The final read through before publishing...this one should be easy, right? Nope. THE DRIVE is my fourth novel, but my first attempt at self-publishing. I've found myself second guessing... "Is the pace fast enough, but not too fast?" "Will my readers pick up on the subtle hints I drop throughout the story?" "Crap...there is an extra period on page 54." "Is defense spelled 'defense' or 'defence?' Duh..." "Extra space on p. 128." "Maybe I should have one more editor go through this..." UGH!!! Monster (my feline writing companion) sleeps soundly beside my laptop despite my frustrations. I spent 18 months writing THE DRIVE and three months editing. It has been FUN! All that is left is this final read through to find tiny glitches in formatting and any stray errors that may have slipped through the editing process. NOT FUN. Uploading the document to my Kindle Paperwhite and comparing it to the word document on my laptop helps me see what the end product will actually look like. Each and every word is read twice. Hours pass and my family asks..."Are you still editing?" I mumble, "Almost done..." after I cram another chocolate into my mouth. Yes, that is a box of Donaldson's dark chocolate toffee inches from my finger tips---mmmmmmmm. Back to editing and more toffee. ---Rebecca
